Q: How often should I brush and what is the correct technique?

A: We recommend you brush twice a day and floss once. Floss first to remove debris and plaque from between teeth. Now when brushing, your toothpaste can get between the teeth to strengthen and clean. Have a standard path for brushing. Start in the back and work forward in each section, using small scrubbing circles. You should brush to clean under the gums slightly and massage the gums at the same time. We recommend electric toothbrushes to make cleaning the hard-to-reach areas easier.

Q: How often do I need a check up and x-rays?

A: A healthy patient should have their teeth cleaned every 6 months with bitewing x-rays once a year. Our dentists recommend a panoramic screening x-ray every 3-5 years. Some patients with periodontal (gum) problems, may need to have more frequent cleanings.

Q: I haven't been to the dentist in years. What should I expect on my first visit?

A: Unless you have an emergency that needs attention, your first visit will consist mainly of an exam and x-rays. The dentist will discuss your treatment options and help you decide which services are the best for you. We will always explain all options and take the time to develop a customized plan for you to accommodate your dental and financial needs. Most of the time, we are able to complete a cleaning during your first visit as well.
